Since I’m not able to cover all Berlin Hotels, I will try to have a closer look at a few of them. On this page I will list Berlin’s 5 star hotels, since that list is still quite manageable. I must admit I have never actually stayed at any of these hotels – neither am I affiliated to any of them. I just do get some kicks out of thinking I would stay at one of these fine houses. So I would like to list them as a suggestion – and maybe if you happen to stay at an of the Berlin 5 star hotels, you may leave me a note by email or in the comments below.
Of course I could probably afford a weekend for two at one of hotels listed below – but beeing a Berliner I would probably rather prefer to spend the weekend in a different city than Berlin. This puts me in a funny situation – a Schroedingers situation: I would love to AND not love to stay at one of the 5 star hotels listed below. Well – anyways… Here’s the list:
Hotel de Rome
The Hotel du Rome is located in Mitte’s Behrenstrasse, right the old City Centry of Berlin. The walking distance to the old boulevard Unter den Linden is approximately 2 minutes. A five minute walk should be enough to get to the famous Museum Island – and another 10 minutes will take you either to the Brandenburg Gate or the Alexanderplatz. Staying at the Hotel du Rome you are basically in the heart of Berlin’s old City Centry. Directly around the corner you’ll find Französischer Dom and Deutscher Dom – probably some of the most beautiful old buildings Berlin has to offer.

Waldorf Astoria Berlin
The Waldorf Astoria is located in the center of West Berlin. The building the hotel is situated in is rather new: the Zoofenster (‘Window to the Zoo‘) is a 118 meter highrise right at the intersection of Kantstrasse, Joachimstaler Strasse and Hardenbergstraße. opposite of the famous / infamous train station Zoo. From the upper floors you can enjoy a stunning view over the Centre of West Berlin – something that is rather rare Berlin, where the average building only has 4-5 floors.

Das Stue
If you prefer to have to comfort of staying in the city center, but would like to have the surroundings rather green and quiet, then the Hotel Das Stue might be the right place to stay. It is basically located in West Berlin’s inner city park Tiergarten – or at least the street where it is located is surrounded by the Tiergarten. A two minute wold will bring you to the ‘Großer See’ – one of several small lakes inside the Tiergarten Park. And another 10 to 15 minutes will bring you to Tauentziehnstrasse and Kurfürstendamm – one of West Berlin’s main shopping areas where you’ll also find the famous department store KaDeWe. So staying at the Das Stue you basically reside in the green while still enjoying all the amenities that a 5 star hotel in the city center has to offer.

Sofitel Berlin Kurfürstendamm
Another 5 star hotel right in the city center of West Berlin. Staying at the Sofitel Berlin Kurfürstendamm, you would be basically right at West Berlin’s shopping mile Kurfürstendamm. The iconic war memorial monument / ruin / church of Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church) is basically opposite of the hotel. A ten minute walk will bring you to West Berlin’s legendary department store KaDeWe and ten minutes to the opposite direction bring you to the city park Tiergarten.
