Between the Worlds. The private photo collection of Käte Frank 1928-1948

Private photos provide a special insight into the lives of Jewish people in the 1930s and 1940s. While they are of great importance for family memories, they have so far received little public attention. Käte Frank’s photographs form a unique collection. They begin in Berlin during the Weimar Republic and reflect the spirit of optimism of those years. As a young woman, Käte Frank found a connection to a cosmopolitan environment. At the beginning of the 1930s, she set off for Spain with a friend and experienced new freedom in a politically left-leaning bohemian society. In 1933, the transfer of power to the National Socialists prevented her from returning to Germany
